BLUES WIN GOOD GAME AT HEMSWORTH

Lee Parker scores in the 10th minute

July 29th 2003 Hemsworth MW 1 Glasshoughton Welfare 2

The last away preseason match took us to another good welcome this time at Hemsworth MW s Fitzwilliam ground . A stronger Blues side featured debutants in Keeper James Shutt and midfielder David Ward . From the off Welfare played neat passing football and soon led when the ball was worked wide to LEE PARKER who cracked home a low 10th minute shot. With Ward , Fox and Bradley showing neat control and with the trade mark surging runs from John Haigh there was a potency to the attack not seen in the first two games . We dominated possession and should have added to our lead .

In the 47th minute a short free kick was played to JASON BRADLEY by Carl Fox . The hosts had switched off and the striker ran in to net . The strong running of John Ward was a feature as was the defensive excellence of Paul Mattison , but it was Hemsworth who provided the games most memerable momment. On the hour Bashford found himself unmarked but 30 yards out . His thumping volley dipped over Shutt and bisected the angle of post and bar . There were further chances at both ends but despite substitute goalkeeper Carl Codd making one fine save we ended at 2-1 .
