GLASSHOUGHTON WELFARE UNDER 19'S GO TOP!
Tuesdays victory over Pontefract Collieries not only provided a welcome double over our derby rivals but also shot the Blues to the top of the table. It was a competitive game but Glasshoughtons all-round strength gave them the advantage and goals from Jamie Bird and Martyn Woolford won the points. However the most pleasing aspect was the the under 19's fine team performance allied to a high level of technical skill and hard work. The team welcomed back Ross Bladen - a centre back with genuine first team credentials, and there was also mature performances from 16 year old Joe Clarke and Liam Fradgeley and Calvin Waite both of whom are just 15. The conveyor belt rolls on! The previous home game was overshadowed by the news that Liam Radford, our popular right winger, had been involved in a tragic car accident and was in a coma in LGI. Fortunately 'Ronnie' is now recovering well, and though still in hospital, is expected to make a full recovery. The Club wishes him well.
For the record we beat Hutton Cranswick 4-1 in another excellent team performance. Andrew Seed and Jamie Bird grabbed two goals each.
The Club is rightly proud of its yougsters who enjoy an excellent reputation over an ever wider geographical area. However, we do need more help on and off the pitch. Anyone interested should contact Bill Douglas on 01977 612237. THIS IS VITAL TO THE FUTURE OF THE FOOTBALL CLUB.
